We are Jami (left) and Shani (right) - besties for 20+ years. Ride or Die girls who have supported each other through job loss, deaths, life changes. Always encouraging each other - sometimes a little bluntly - to be better, perservere, and grow. We are at a stage in life where we desire to pour into girls of all ages and share some of the wisdom we've gained through our adventures together.
We are hopeful that as we build this community, we can connect women of faith, who support each other and eventually grow into a movement that offers scholarships, helps a girl buy her first house or invests in a woman owned company, and stands with each other when courage calls.
We aren't going anywhere. If Shani outlives her husband, we plan on being the crazy girls, besties in the nursing home, raising the roof!
Within the first week I moved to Nashville, I met Shani (on the right) at a job fair. I got hired at the company she was representing and we worked together for a season...as with most fledgling start ups, some cuts were made and a group of ladies lost our jobs that day. It was the first time, I had ever been 'let go'...I felt like such a failure.
I will never forget this moment as long as I live...I was in the parking lot, attempting to comprehend the next step and Shani called my cell. She was the first person to ask if I'd been let go. I was mortified....and I hung my head in shame and said "Yes". I had NO IDEA what I was going to do next.
She said "come to my house tomorrow morning for Mimosa's and planning". She managed to corral the women that got let go that day, and convinced us to meet up the next morning to take the next step, together. We went to the unemployment office together, filled out our paperwork and began the job hunt.
Shani helped me process the embarrassment of losing a job, change incorrect perceptions I had about being unemployed and stay in hope until my next job.
It was this adventure that cemented our lifelong bond. I am FOREVER grateful for her friendship, our past pigtail adventures and those yet to come!
